LOCAL REPORT; Yakima native shines in NYC Marathon - Yakima Herald-Republic

Richard Williams, a 24-year-old Yakima native who ran cross-country at West Valley before graduating in 2005, ran in some prettyelite company in Sunday's New York City Marathon.

Williams finished the 26.2-mile race in two hours, 32 minutes and29 seconds, good enough to place 72nd overall out of more than46,000 runners.

Williams was also fifth in his 20-24 age group, but he was thetop American in that highly competitive group, which included threeof the top 10 finishers and four of the top 18 -- all from Ethiopiaor Kenya.

Beetle Board to meet

The Yakima Beetle Baseball board of directors will hold itsNovember meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Jack-sons Sports Bar at 48thAvenue and Tieton Drive.

All those interested are welcome to attend.

Davis winter meeting set

Davis will hold its winter sports meeting for parents andathletes Wednesday.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. in the school's cafeteria.
