TWO WOULD BE A MEAL: Scientists at the Waddell Mariculture Center near Hilton Head, S.C., have shown that they can grow more and larger shrimp in a climate-controlled environment. The shrimp, a new breed of fast-growing crustaceans, are fed a new diet to help them grow. The two tons of shrimp harvested this week were each about 8 inches long, twice the size of normal large shrimp.< GOOD FOR BUSINESS: In terms of economic freedom, Virginia ranks No. 3 among the 50 states, according to the Pacific Research Institute, behind Kansas and Colorado. Published in association with Forbes, the report used more than 100 variables, including regulatory and fiscal obstacles imposed on residents. Income in Virginia is 6.4 percent above the national average, at $32,922 per capita in 2002, according to the report. In 2003, the jobless rate was also one of the lowest, at 4 percent. < SKY IS FULL: U.S. airlines will carry 16.3 million passengers during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and are poised to set a record for this year as airfares fall to 16-year lows, the carriers' trade group said. The number of travelers will top 15.9 million recorded in last year's holiday weekend, putting the industry on pace to carry 685 million passengers for the year, according to the Air Transport Association. The annual total should top the record 666 million in 2000.<

BEEFY FARE: Shula's 347, a restaurant named for retired NFL football coach and Hall of Fame member Don Shula and his 347 career victories, plans to open today in the downtown Norfolk Waterside Marriott hotel. The hotel will operate the new eatery as a franchise in place of the former NYC Deli & Pub. A sports bar with an emphasis on the audio visual system, Shula's menu boasts variety - from salads and sandwiches to steaks and seafood. The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Shula's 2, a sports-themed restaurant, recently opened in Richmond.
